It’s that time of the year again! The AIGA Hampton Roads Chapter Board is recruiting new members for our Board of Directors!
Board members do not have to be designers, but must have an interest in supporting the creative community. Examples of non-design board members include, but are not limited to, writers, communications specialists, development or fundraising specialists, project managers, and business owners.
New board members receive guidance throughout the year from more senior board members. If you’re interested in a position, but not sure if you fit all the qualifications, don’t worry! We’ll be there to help you along the way.
We want our board and our chapter to represent the diverse community in which we live, and we strongly encourage individuals from historically underrepresented groups to apply. Board members should be dedicated, excited, and passionate about the Hampton Roads creative community and want to support, amplify, and collaborate with all of the amazing talent that exists within Hampton Roads.
Open Positions:
Operations Director
The Operations Director serves as a liaison between the executive board and the full board. They oversee committee meetings and provide reports and updates to the full board. They act as a historian for the Chapter, record meeting minutes and oversee the organization and recordkeeping of all Chapter documentation.
Communications Director
The Communications Director is responsible for creating and managing a sustainable communications plan to promote upcoming Chapter events. They oversee the planning, and distributing of our chapter content and communication about the happenings of the Chapter and AIGA.
Membership Director
The Membership Director oversees the growth of our Chapter’s membership. They make connections at events and are responsible for encouraging new memberships as well as helping with the needs of our existing membership. The Membership Director oversees the development of all membership-themed marketing materials. The Membership Director collects/catalogs volunteer submissions and alerts appropriate Board members, and assists them in assembling volunteer committees for larger initiatives.
Education Director
The Education Director promotes and expands regional student and faculty participation in the design community, serving as a liaison between AIGA National, AIGA-HR and Student Group Faculty Advisors. They arrange and assist faculty with coordinating events that take place at educational facilities. Implement the Emerge Initiative within the Chapter as well as internship and/mentorship programs.
Programming Director
The Programming Director works with all Board members to plan an annual calendar that reflects the Chapter’s activities. They develop and produce quality and profitable programming; work closely with fellow board members to produce successful programs; oversee planning of their events, particularly establishing and tracking of event budgets (work with Bookkeeper), and time management; and assist in securing speakers, sponsors and venues when needed.
Expectations:
– Serve a minimum term of 2 consecutive years
– Maintain active membership of AIGA during their time on the board
– Attend monthly board meetings over zoom or in-person
– Attend chapter board retreat; planned annually
Time Commitment: 3-5 Hours/ Week
Key Dates:
March 1 – Elections close
March 20 – Newly elected Board Members are notified
April 5 – First official Board Meeting
We are now excepting Board Member submissions on a rolling basis.
