AIGA Hampton Roads and Nomad Notebooks will announce the winners of the competition during a virtual ZOOM award reveal party.
Winners will later be highlighted on AIGA Hampton Roads and Nomad Notebooks social media platforms which will go live Friday, August 13, after the “People’s Choice” votes have been tallied up.
Posts will be made on AIGA Hampton Roads’ Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn!
Curated submissions will be displayed on the official AIGA Hampton Roads Facebook and Instagram pages the day after the live event for the community to vote through likes. Each entrant will be in the running for People’s Choice.
Voting will begin Monday, August 9 and close on Wednesday, August 11 at 11:59pm EST.
Remember, you can only cast your vote for People’s Choice during the day of the event! Winners must be present to claim prizes.
AIGA Hampton Roads and Nomad Notebooks have teamed up to host a design competition that encourages each and every artist to put their creativity on display! Each entrant has the opportunity to have their art featured on the cover of Nomad Notebooks very first artist series pocket size sketchbooks, amongst a host of other prizes. Our goal is to build a stronger art community, and environment for talented creators to gain national and international exposure.
BACKGROUND
As part of an effort to engage and reach artists across Hampton Roads, nationally and internationally, we have decided to do a rally call for all artists both big and small. The world has been stuck indoors and under restrictions for quite some time and with the restrictions easing and now looking towards a much brighter future, it is time to put our Summer Vibes on full display.
2021 THEME
Prompt: Picture you are planning for the summer, what to do, where to go, what to eat. Envision your perfect summer and let it translate through your art. Create a 3.5”x5.5” folded and 7”x5.5” flat cover design to summarize your definition of Summer Vibes. It can be a pattern, type treatment, existing art but all we ask is that you channel what Summer Vibes mean to you.

Jury-selected winners will have their covers professionally printed and will have their covers highlighted individually on the AIGA and Nomad Notebooks social media accounts.

Print-Ready Art (PDF)
Your file should be set up to 7”x5.5” with a .125” bleed and crop marks at 300 dpi. All art will be converted to CMYK for printing purposes. We have made Photoshop, Illustrator, PDF and InDesign templates for you to download:

Name your file with your first and last name and save as a high-quality print .pdf file.

Web Art (JPG)
Your file should be set up to 7”x5.5” at 72 dpi. All web files should be submitted as RGB. (Note: This is simply a web version of your print-ready art without crop marks and bleeds)
Name your file with your first and last name. Example: Firstname-Lastname.pdf
Artist Bio
Artist bio should be between 75 and 100 words, but not to exceed 100 words. (.doc, .docx, .txt)
Bio may be edited for grammatical accuracy.
Artist Headshot
Submit a color or black and white photo (note: all color photos will be converted to and printed in greyscale)
Use a clear image of your face. Do not use filters commonly used on social media.
Have someone else take your photo. No selfies.

Remember, your art will be featured on a retail product for all ages, please refrain from using any profanity, vulgarity, offensive and/or controversial subject matter in your submitted art and bio. By submitting art, you are agreeing that it is your original artwork and agree to the terms of a one-year license for production. Any production beyond the one-year will be subject to renewed negotiations between the artist and Nomad Notebooks LLC.

Is there a submission fee?
Nope! All entrants have unlimited and free submissions.
Can my submission be created in another medium?
Whatever your medium – we don’t mind. Make sure to send us a digital file at the correct size (7”x5.5” with a .125” bleed and crop marks) to qualify.
Can I use digital or film photographs as my submission?
For this competition we are looking for all other Mediums, though photographs can be used as an aid in your submitted design.
