We’re excited to introduce you to Mary Kaufman of Bluebird’s Garage and Zoe Grant of Andi & Zoe Photography – the two artists and experts presenting AIGA HR’s March 24 workshop: “Shooting with Style.” We recently sat down with Mary and Zoe to ask them a few questions about their work and what they have planned for the workshop. Space is limited and there are only a few spots left, so register today!
AIGA HR: What do you do? And how did you get started?
Mary Kaufman: I am a stylist who owns a studio and vintage rental company here in Virginia Beach. I got started out of my garage after my husband and I first got married. My position at a local newspaper was dropped and I didn’t want to work in traditional sales. My husband urged me to take the leap!
Zoe Grant: I am a wedding and commercial photographer. My mom, Andi, started the business almost 8 years ago. Shortly after starting her business she needed an assistant one day on a shoot. She handed me a camera in auto and told me to shoot away. She saw that I had an eye and the rest was history. We are both self taught photographers and love what we do!
AIGA HR: What is your favorite project you’ve worked on recently?
MK: Right now I am getting to work with local business owners in Va Beach/Norfolk styling for the Scout Guide Volume 4. I have loved getting to meet an eclectic mix of business owners and come up with creative concepts for their upcoming ads! My favorite shoots are always the off the wall shoots that I get to do with Zoe. We will send each other magazine ads, music cover art, and everything else in between.
ZG: One of my favorite projects I’ve done was a shoot with Mary Kaufman. It was our Frida Kahlo shoot. Basically anything we do together is my favorite!
AIGA HR: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
MK: Art, music, catalogues, and magazines like Darling andKinfolk
ZG: I love books of ads and models from the 50s, 60, and 70s.
AIGA HR: What can attendees expect from your workshop on March 24?
MK & ZG: Attendees can expect to learn the basics of their cameras and how to style a photograph. We will talk about how we work together, show some of our pictures of past styled shoots, and talk about how some of our favorite images were created.
AIGA HR: Where can we find more information about you and your work?
